LIRR to Impose 37-Hour Ban on Alcohol for Annual SantaCon Event
MTA Police Will Enforce Restriction on Trains and at Stations From 11 p.m., Friday, Dec. 12, to Noon, Sunday, Dec. 14

To maintain orderly travel and safe station and terminal operations during this coming weekend’s SantaCon event, alcohol will not be permitted on Long Island Rail Road trains and stations from 11 p.m. on Friday, December 12, through noon on Sunday, December 14.

MTA Police Officers will be on duty to enforce this restriction on trains as well as at the LIRR’s New York City terminals, including Penn Station, and outlying stations. The police will confiscate alcohol and issue summonses carrying fines of up to $50, imprisonment of up to 30 days, or both. Violators may also be subject to removal from the train or station by police.

The SantaCon alcohol ban partially coincides with the LIRR’s usual ban on alcohol between midnight and 5 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The LIRR occasionally imposes temporary bans on alcohol for the safety of customers and train crews.
