OMNY for Access-A-Ride

Updated Apr 9, 2026
Access-A-Ride (AAR) has introduced an optional cashless way to pay your fare with the AAR OMNY ID Card. Cash will remain a payment option.

About your AAR OMNY ID card

AAR customers—except those with temporary status—will receive an AAR OMNY ID card that replaces the AAR ID and AAR MetroCard. The AAR OMNY ID card serves as both your official AAR photo ID and an optional contactless payment method.

Your AAR OMNY ID card can be used to pay your AAR fare, and will have:

  • Personal Care Attendant (PCA) indication, if approved

  • Your AAR ID number

  • Your photo

You don’t need to request this card. Eligible customers will automatically receive it by mail at the address noted on file.

Creating an OMNY account

You have the option to create an online OMNY account. With an OMNY account, you can manage your AAR OMNY ID card 24/7.

How to create an OMNY account

  • Visit omny.info and select “Register” on the home page. Enter your email address, pick your password, then provide your name and contact information.
  • Check your inbox for an email and then click the link to verify your email address. Your OMNY account will then be activated.
  • Use your email address and password to sign in.

Paying your AAR fare with OMNY

OMNY eliminates the need for exact change by allowing you to pre-load funds onto your AAR OMNY ID card. Steps on how to set up automatic payments in your AAR OMNY Account Wallet can be found in the video at 2:43.

Steps on how to use your AAR OMNY ID Card to pay for your AAR trips can be found in the video at 3:45. There are no OMNY readers onboard AAR vehicles.

To pay your fare with OMNY:

  • Add funds to your AAR OMNY ID card.
  • The associated OMNY account will be recognized as the electronic payment method.
  • Show your AAR OMNY ID card to your driver.
  • The fare will be deducted automatically from your OMNY balance at the end of your trip.

If you’d like to return to paying cash, call AAR before your next trip to update your payment preference.

Guests must still pay the applicable transit fare in cash (exact change). Your PCA always rides free. If your vehicle doesn’t arrive, you won’t be charged for that trip.

AAR OMNY ID cards cannot be used to pay for taxi or e-hail trips.

Four Free Trips Benefit

Eligible AAR customers can receive four free daily rides on MTA subways, local, limited, and Select Bus Service (SBS) buses, the Staten Island Railway, and the Roosevelt Island Tram. Steps on how to use your four free trips on MTA's subway and local bus services can be found in the video at 5:18.

Traveling with a Personal Care Attendant

If you’re authorized to travel with a Personal Care Attendant (PCA), that status will appear on your AAR OMNY ID card. PCAs always travel free. Additional guests must still pay their applicable fare in exact change.

When booking your trip, indicate whether you’ll be traveling with a PCA or guest, so your driver has accurate fare instructions.

Fair Fares NYC participants

If you’re enrolled in the Fair Fares NYC program, your discounted fare information will be stored in your AAR account, and you’ll be charged half fare for your AAR trips when paying with OMNY.
