At Mosholu Pkwy  , artist Corinne Grondahl expanded her 2008 installation “Metromorphosis/Birth of a Station” with glass artworks surrounding the station’s elevators on both the northbound and southbound platforms and mezzanines. Drawing from her longtime practice of transforming thrifted neckties into swirling, abstract forms, these additions continue her exploration of motion,connectedness, and the energy that moves through natural and built environments. 

On the southbound side, "The Gyre/CHAOS" uses vivid blues and reds to evoke the North Pacific Gyre—a vast, rotating patch of plastic waste created by converging ocean currents. By linking that distant accumulation of debris to New York City’s waterways, Grondahl underscores how oceans and rivers are connected across geographies. In contrast, "CHANGE" on the northbound side radiates across multicolored expanses that suggest renewal and possibility, reflecting the ongoing revitalization of the nearby Bronx River and the environmental healing made possible through sustained collective action. 

Grondahl passed away in 2024 while the station expansion was in progress. Completed in collaboration with Mayer of Munich, the artwork expansion stands as her final public commission. Together, "CHANGE" and "The Gyre/CHAOS" honor her commitment to environmental stewardship and the transformative motion within natural systems and the communities who travel through the station each day.
