Station REVIVE program

REVIVE teams are making stations cleaner, brighter, safer, and more welcoming.

REVIVE is New York City Transit's comprehensive station state of good repair program. This program restores and revitalizes subway stations through concentrated infrastructure improvements and aesthetic upgrades.

REVIVE brings together skilled facilities tradesmen across many disciplines for a wide range of work, which can include painting, masonry repairs, carpentry repairs, lighting improvements, structural maintenance, water mitigation, deep cleaning and other enhancements. These fixes improve the overall appearance, functionality, and customer experience of each station. Each REVIVE project leaves stations cleaner, brighter, safer, and more welcoming, reinforcing our commitment to maintaining a reliable, safe, and world-class transit system for the millions of riders who depend on it every day.

REVIVE isn't just about cleaning. We’re also:

  • Unclogging drains, mitigating leaks, and installing new drains
  • Giving stations a fresh coat of paint
  • Repairing broken concrete
  • Restoring benches
  • Replacing broken and damaged tile
  • Refinishing glass surfaces
  • Fixing staircases
  • Upgrading critical back of house infrastructure such as communications rooms
  • Repairing the platform edge to prevent future delays

At some stations, REVIVEs include additional work, such as:

  • Installing ADA-compliant tactile edge warning systems at Roosevelt Island
  • Scraping and painting the entire platform canopy at Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St
  • Repainting the mezzanine shed structure at Marble Hill-225 St
  • Rebuilding two entire staircases at Junction Blvd
  • Replacing over 12,000 sq. ft. of subway tile at 157 St
  • Significant roof repairs to shelter customers during heavy rains at Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy

We've REVIVEd over 180 stations across the city so far, and we're planning to REVIVE 50 more each year. So far we've completed the following work:

  • 6.3 million square feet of repainted surfaces
  • 120K square feet of wall tile replaced
  • 35K square feet of floor tile replaced
  • Over 4,000 drains cleaned
  • Over 900 benches refinished
  • Over 250K linear feet of rubbing board inspected/repaired

It's all designed to give riders a cleaner, brighter, more pleasant experience in the subway system.
