What we're doing
From December 26 through December 31, service on the will be rerouted through the 63 St Tunnel, which means trains run on the line between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and W 4 St. That also means there will be no service at Court Sq-23 St, Lexington Av/53 St, or 5 Av-53 St, 24/7, for the duration of the week. If you would normally take the or trains, you’ll want to plan extra travel time, consider starting your trip on a different line, or make an extra transfer.
Why we're doing it
We're working to complete a lot of projects in the 53 St Tunnel, including:
- Electrical work in pump rooms and fan plants
- Duct bank repairs
- Signal removal for Queens Blvd CBTC
- Signal installation for 8th Av CBTC
- Escalator replacement at Lexington Av/53 St
Ridership is significantly lower during the holiday week compared to other weekdays. This means we can fit an entire month of weekend work into a single five-day period.
Service changes
- trains will run via the line between Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av and W 4th St-Wash Sq in both directions. Trains will run normally between Jamaica Center-Parsons/ Archer and Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Av, and between W 4 St and World Trade Ctr.
- trains will not run between Delancey St-Essex St and Forest Hills-71 Av all week. Over Christmas weekend, M trains will run normally between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Delancey St-Essex St during the day (and only to Myrtle Av overnight).
- From Tuesday-Friday during the day, trains will also make stops at Bowery, Canal St, and Chambers St on the line.
There will be no service at the following stations:

- Court Sq-23 St
- Lexington Av/53 St
- 5 Av/53 St
- 7 Av
- 50 St
- 42 St/Port Authority
- 34 St-Penn Station
- 23 St
- 14 St
