MTA Weekender: May 16-19, 2025

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday! We have great news for Rockaway riders: After one more weekend of service changes, regular   and Rockaway Park Shuttle service will be restored on Monday at 5 a.m. This weekend's service changes are different from those that have been in effect over the past several weeks as we prepare to restore service, so read on for more details.

And a note for our Brooklyn riders: because of the RBC Brooklyn Half, many Brooklyn bus routes will have service changes on Saturday, and    trains aren't stopping at Eastern Pwky-Brooklyn Museum Saturday morning.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a map):

  •   trains aren't running between 168 St and 137 St-City College and are running in two sections.
  •   trains aren't running in Brooklyn.
  •   trains aren't running between between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.
  •   trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Church Av and are running in two sections.
  •   trains aren't running between Hewes St and Broad St.
  •   trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St.
  •   Rockaway Park Shuttle isn't running.

Major subway service changes

  trains, Manhattan

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday,   trains aren't running between 168 St and 137 St-City College in either direction and are running in two sections:

  • Between Van Cortlandt Park-242 St and 168 St, every 12 minutes during the day and evening.
  • Between 137 St-City College and South Ferry, every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

This is because of station work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take free shuttle buses, which are running between 168 St and 137 St-City College making all   stops. Or, use nearby    stations.
    • When exiting the subway at 168 St or 137 St-City College, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.

  trains, Brooklyn

  trains aren't running in Brooklyn from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station work.

  • For service between Borough Hall and Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College, take    trains.
  • For service between Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College and New Lots Av, take the  , which is running to/from New Lots Av all weekend, including overnight.
  •   trains are running between Woodlawn and Bowling Green.

   trains, Queens

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  •   trains aren't running between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.
    •  ​ trains are running between Inwood-207 St and Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd or Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
  •   Rockaway Park Shuttle isn't running.

This is because of the Rockaway Line Resiliency and Rehabilitation project.

  • For service to/from affected stations, take free shuttle buses, which are running on three routes:
    • Q97, nonstop between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway-Mott Av.
    • Q109, between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Beach 67 St, stopping at Broad Channel and Beach 90 St.
    • Between Far Rockaway-Mott Av and Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St, making all subway stops.
  • Transfer between shuttle bus routes at Far Rockaway-Mott Av, Beach 67 St, or Beach 90 St.

At 5 a.m. on Monday, normal   and Rockaway Park Shuttle service will resume.

   trains, Brooklyn

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  •   trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Church Av in either direction, and are running in two sections:
    • Between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
    • Between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn.
  • Coney Island-bound   trains are running express from Jay St-MetroTech to Kings Hwy.

This is because of signal modernization.

  • For service to/from 7 Av and Church Av, take the  .
  • For local service to    stations between Bergen St and Church Av and   stations between Church Av and Kings Hwy, take a Manhattan-bound  .
  • To connect between   and   trains, take    trains between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Jay St-MetroTech.

   trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  •   trains aren't running between Hewes St and Broad St in either direction. 
    •  ​ trains are running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Hewes St, every 12 minutes during the day and evening.
  •   trains aren't running between Myrtle Av and Delancey St-Essex St in either direction.
    •  ​ trains are running between Middle Village-Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av.

This is because of track replacement.

  • For service between Myrtle Av and Hewes St, take the ​ .
  • For service between Hewes St and Delancey St-Essex St, take free B106 shuttle buses, which are running between these stations and stopping at Marcy Av.
    • When exiting the subway at Hewes St or Delancey St-Essex St, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, take the   train.
  • For service to Lower Manhattan, take     trains.

Other subway service changes

   trains, Brooklyn

Manhattan-bound    trains aren't stopping at Hoyt St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday because of station work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Flatbush Av-bound   or New Lots Av-bound  .

Flatbush Av-bound   and New Lots Av-bound   trains aren't stopping at Hoyt St from 11:45 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday because of station work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Manhattan-bound train.

From 4 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday,    trains aren't stoping at Eastern Pkwy-Brooklyn Museum in either direction during the RBC Brooklyn Half

  • For service to/from this station, use nearby Grand Army Plaza or Franklin Av-Medgar Evers College.

   trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound    trains are running nonstop from E 180 St to 3 Av-149 St from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Wakefield-bound   or Eastchester-bound  .
  •   trains are running every 12 minutes during the day and evening and aren't running between E 180 St and Bowling Green until 10 a.m. on Sunday.

  trains, the Bronx

Pelham Bay Park-bound   trains are running nonstop from Hunts Point Av to Parkchester from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train

  trains, Queens

Flushing-bound   trains are running express from 74 St-Broadway to Mets-Willets Point from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Monday because of station work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

    trains, Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • Downtown   and   local trains are running express from 59 St-Columbus Circle to Canal St.
  • Downtown   trains are running express from 34 St-Penn Station to Canal St.

This is because of electrical work.

  • For service to/from 50 St, take the  .
  • For service to/from 23 St and Spring St, take an uptown local train.

    trains, Brooklyn

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, Bay Ridge-bound   and Coney Island-bound    local trains are running nonstop from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St. This is because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

    trains, Queens

Forest Hills-bound   and Jamaica-bound    local trains aren't stopping at Woodhaven Blvd from 11:45 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday because of station work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Manhattan-bound train.

Manhattan-bound   and    local trains aren't stopping at Woodhaven Blvd from 11:45 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday because of station work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Forest Hills-bound   or Jamaica-bound    local train.

  trains, Manhattan

Uptown   trains aren't stopping at 14 St or 23 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.
  • Uptown   trains are stopping at the express platform from W 4 St-Washington Sq to 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr.

    trains, Manhattan

Uptown    and   local trains are running express from Canal St to 34 St-Herald Sq from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Hempstead, Port Jefferson, and Ronkonkoma branches

Westbound trains aren't stopping at Elmont-UBS Arena, Queens Village, and Hollis from 2 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday because of signal upgrades.

  • For service to/from Queens Village and Hollis, take MTA buses, which are accepting LIRR tickets for travel between Queens Village, Hollis, and Jamaica. View a map of your route options.
  • For service to/from Elmont-UBS Arena, use nearby Bellerose.

West Hempstead Branch

West Hempstead Branch trains aren't running between Valley Stream and West Hempstead in either direction from 5 a.m. Saturday to 2 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service between Valley Stream and West Hempstead, take shuttle buses, which are making all stops between these stations.
  • For service to/from St. Albans, take Babylon Branch trains, which are stopping at this station.
  • West Hempstead Branch trains are running between Grand Central and Valley Stream.
  • Use Schedules or TrainTime to plan your trip.
