MTA Weekender: Memorial Day Weekend 2025

There are service changes on the subway, buses, LIRR, and Metro-North this holiday weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday, and welcome to the unofficial first weekend of summer!

Because it's a holiday weekend, we have some service changes on Monday, Memorial Day:

  • The subway and buses will run on a Sunday schedule. Some weekend service changes continue through Monday; read on for more details.
  • The LIRR will run on a weekend schedule.
    • The Montauk Branch will run on a Sunday schedule.
  • Metro-North will run on a Sunday schedule on the Hudson, Harlem, and New Haven lines and a weekend schedule on the Port Jervis and Pascack Valley lines, with an added train on the Port Jervis Line.

This weekend also marks the beginning of our extended summer weekend Rockaway Park Shuttle service to Rockaway Blvd, where you can transfer to or from any   train.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a map):

  •   trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse, and are running in two sections.
  • Euclid Av-bound   trains are running on the   from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 34 St-Herald Sq and on the   to Jay St-MetroTech.
  •    trains aren't running to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •   trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Church Av, and are running in two sections, and   trains are running nonstop between Jay St-MetroTech and 4 Av-9 St.
  •   trains aren't running between Queensboro Plaza and Times Sq-42 St.
  •   trains are running on the   between 21 St-Queensbridge and 57 St-7 Av.

Major subway service changes

  trains, the Bronx

Saturday and Sunday,   trains aren't running between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse, and are running in two sections:

  • Between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St, every 12 minutes.
  • Between Bowling Green and 149 St-Grand Concourse and on the   to/from Burnside Av, every 20 minutes.
    • Burnside Av-bound trains aren't stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse or between 149 St-Grand Concourse and Burnside Av.

This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse, take the  .

    trains, Manhattan

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday:

  • Euclid Av-bound   trains are running on the   from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 34 St-Herald Sq and on the   to Jay St-MetroTech.
  • Downtown   trains are running express from 34 St-Penn Station to Canal St.
  • Downtown   local trains are running express from 59 St-Columbus Circle to Canal St.

This is because of electrical work.

  • For service to/from 50 St, take the  .
  • For service to/from 23 St and Spring St, take an uptown local train or use nearby   stations.
  • For service to/from all other bypassed   stations, take the  .

   trains, Brooklyn

   trains aren't running to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av until 5 a.m. Tuesday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from this station, take free shuttle buses, which are running between Bay 50 St   and Coney Island-Stillwell Av and between 86 St   and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
    • When exiting the subway at Bay 50 St, 86 St, or Coney Island-Stillwell Av, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For direct service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take    trains.

   trains, Brooklyn

From 11 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday:

  •   trains aren't running between Hoyt-Schermerhorn and Church Av in either direction, and are running in two sections:
    • Between Court Sq and Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
    • Between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn, every 20 minutes. All trains are stopping at the Court Sq-bound platform.
  •   trains are running nonstop between Jay St-MetroTech and 4 Av-9 St in both directions.

This is because of signal modernization.

  • For service between Jay St-MetroTech or Hoyt-Schermerhorn and 4 Av-9 St, take free shuttle buses, which are running between Jay St-MetroTech, Hoyt-Schermerhorn, and 7 Av, making all    stops.
  • For service between 4 Av-9 St and Church Av, take the  .

  trains, Manhattan and Queens

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday,   trains aren't running between Queensboro Plaza and Times Sq-42 St in either direction, and are running in two sections:

  • Between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza.
    • At Queensboro Plaza, all trains are stopping at the Manhattan-bound platform.
  • Between Times Sq-42 St and 86 St.

This is because of track replacement.

  • For service between Queens and Manhattan, take the  .
  • For service to/from Lexington Av/59 St and 5 Av/59 St, use nearby 59 St    .
  • For service to/from 57 St-7 Av and 49 St, take    trains.
    •   trains are running local between 57 St-7 Av and Canal St in both directions all weekend.

  trains, Manhattan and Queens

  trains are running on the   between 21 St-Queensbridge and 57 St-7 Av in both directions during the day and evening Saturday, Sunday, and Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from Lexington Av/59 St or 5 Av/59 St, use nearby Lexington Av/63 St     or 59 St    .
  • For service to/from Queens Plaza, take the  .
  • After 9:45 p.m., Queens-bound   trains are running on the   from 57 St-7 Av to Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av.

Other subway service changes

  trains, the Bronx

Woodlawn-bound   trains aren't stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Manhattan-bound train.

    trains, Manhattan

Uptown   and   local trains are running express from Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall to Grand Central-42 St from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown local train.

   trains are running are running local between 125 St and Grand Central-42 St in both directions all weekend, including Monday, because of track maintenance.

  •   trains are running every 8 minutes during the day and evening while     trains share the local track.

  trains, the Bronx

Pelham Bay Park-bound   trains aren't stopping at Parkchester from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of station work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Manhattan-bound train.

    trains, Queens

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to noon Saturday, Forest Hills-bound   and Jamaica-bound    local trains aren't stopping at 46 St because of station work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Manhattan-bound local train.

From 11:45 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday, Manhattan-bound   and    local trains aren't stopping at 46 St because of station work.

  • For service to/from this station, take a Forest Hills-bound   or Jamaica-bound    local train. 

  trains, Manhattan

Uptown   trains aren't stopping at 14 St or 23 St from 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a downtown train.
  • Uptown   trains are stopping at the express platform from W 4 St-Washington Sq to 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr.

  trains, Brooklyn

Jamaica Center-bound   trains are running nonstop from Myrtle Av to Broadway Junction from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Monday because of structural maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
