Robert Moses State Park has five miles of shoreline where visitors can enjoy four lifeguarded beaches, fishing piers, and a seasonal golf course.
The park office is conveniently located across Robert Moses State Parkway from the Suffolk County Transit Bus Line 15 stop. It’s open daily and sells a variety of permits for fishing, surfing, and stargazing.
Getting there
- Take the Long Island Rail Road Babylon Branch from Penn Station, Grand Central, Jamaica, or other local stops to Babylon Station. Babylon is an accessible station.
- Exit at Babylon and go downstairs, where you will transfer to Suffolk County’s Bus 15 to Robert Moses State Park.
Bus 15 is seasonal and runs throughout the summer. View the Bus 15 schedule and fare information on Suffolk County Transit’s website.

While you're there
- Four designated swimming areas are staffed by lifeguards throughout the summer. Restrooms, concession stands, beach shops, first aid stations, and private outdoor showers are available at each beach.
- The 18-hole pitch-and-putt golf course at Field 2 is open seasonally, offering a relaxed setting for golfers of all skill levels to enjoy a game. Nearby volleyball courts can accommodate up to 21 games at a time.
- First built in 1826 and later rebuilt, the Fire Island Lighthouse is located in Kismet, just two and a half miles east of Field 5 in the state park. Locals created the Fire Island Lighthouse Preservation Society to keep it standing, continuing to operate the lighthouse’s museums, gift shop, and tour operations today.
