MTA Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) today released the schedules for the U.S. Open Golf Championship, which will be played at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton from June 15 through June 21. This is the first time the championship is in Long Island since 2018, when the LIRR carried over 77,000 fans.
“The Long Island Rail Road is ready,” said LIRR President Rob Free. “Avoid the traffic and use our exceptionally reliable service to and from Shinnecock Hills for all the golf action. Extra staff will also be on hand at Southampton to help customers throughout the championship for a great customer experience.”
LIRR service for the 2026 U.S. Open Golf Championship will increase significantly compared to the last championship held in 2018. The railroad will stop an average of seven to eight additional trains per day during the tournament week, while also increasing train lengths, adding extra service and adjusting schedules to provide additional rider capacity and more direct service options to and from Shinnecock Hills Station in Southampton.
During practice rounds Monday through Wednesday, the LIRR will operate 22 trains serving Shinnecock Hills Station, including 10 arriving trains and 12 departing trains, compared to 11 total trains in 2018. During championship rounds Thursday and Friday, the railroad will operate 25 trains serving Southampton, including 12 arrivals and 13 departures, compared to 15 total trains in 2018.
Weekend championship service will also increase substantially. On Saturday and Sunday, the LIRR will operate 26 trains serving Shinnecock Hills Station, including 13 arriving trains and 13 departing trains, compared to 18 total trains during the 2018 championship.
