The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) today announced the graduation of 26 MTA Police Officer recruits during a ceremony at Madison Square Garden, alongside new members of the New York City Police Department (NYPD). This MTA Police Department (MTAPD) class marks the fifth class trained entirely under the MTA Police Department’s independent administration and operations, where all instruction—academic, tactical, and physical fitness—is conducted by MTAPD instructors following MTAPD departmental policies and procedures.

The graduation comes amid a historic drop in subway crime, including the fact that October 2025 was the safest October for major transit crime in recorded history, according to newly released NYPD data.
