MTA Weekender: July 3-6, 2026

There are service changes on the subway this holiday weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.
Updated July 2, 2026 12:00 p.m.

Happy Independence Day, riders! Are you going to watch the fireworks? Or maybe you're going to explore a historic tall ship? Or perhaps you're going to the World Cup match over the weekend? Or are you planning on riding out the heat wave at the beach or a public pool? Whatever you end up doing on this long (and, let's be real, brutally hot) weekend, we hope you take public transit to get there.

But before the weekend begins, be sure to check out our holiday service information: On Friday, July 3, subways and buses will run on a Saturday schedule, and on Saturday, July 4, there will be additional afternoon and evening service on some subway lines for the fireworks. There are also holiday service changes on buses, the LIRR, and Metro-North. Plan ahead before you head out.

Here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a map):

  •   trains aren't running between 168 St-Washington Hts and 137 St-City College.
  •   trains aren't running between Rockaway Blvd and Ozone Park-Lefferts Blvd.
  • Manhattan-bound   trains are running on the   from Coney Island-Stillwell Av to 36 Av.
  •   Rockaway Park Shuttle isn’t running during the day and evening.

For more details, keep on scrolling. We've also got travel alternatives for stations that will be closed or skipped.
