Over the next several months, we will replace turnstiles and/or emergency exit gates at 20 stations with modern “paddle door” fare gates. Read more about the fare gate designs.
Most gates will take approximately one to two weeks to install. See a list of stations where installation is completed.
Travel alternatives for current installations
168 St
The station entrance at St Nicholas Av and W 168 St will be closed during construction. Enter and exit the station at Broadway and W 168 St or W 169 St.
Accessible travel alternatives
The elevator between the street and the mezzanine will be out of service during construction.
Street level stair-free travel to 175 St
Mezzanine and platform level alternatives to street
Delancey St-Essex St
During construction, a fare array at the entrance on the north side of Delancey St will be closed for replacement. Enter the station at Delancey St and Norfolk St or the south side of Delancey St.
Jackson Hts-Roosevelt Av
Modern fare gates are replacing fare arrays at the Broadway and Roosevelt Av entrance. The new gates are being installed in phases, so that ADA accessible entry and exit at this location remain throughout construction.
Using modern fare gates
The new fare gates will only accept tap and ride for fare payments. You will be able to use a contactless bank card, smart device, or OMNY Card to pay the fare. If you still use a MetroCard, you will still be able to enter stations at other entrances.
As you approach the gates from the paid side to exit, sensors will detect you approaching, and open automatically. There is no need to "tap out."
In case of an emergency, gates will automatically open for customer egress. All gates will have the ability to be remotely opened.
If you encounter any issues with the new gates, see a station agent, call 511, use the chat function in the MTA app, or use a Help Point intercom.
