Proposed fare and toll changes
This summer, the MTA Board is considering changes to fares, tolls, and ticketing policies, all to take effect in 2026.
Subway and bus fares
- The fare is $2.90 for most riders on subways and local, limited, and Select Bus Service buses.
- Express buses cost $7.
- Reduced fares for seniors and people with qualifying disabilities are half the regular fare.
- Tap and go to pay your fare with your contactless credit/debit card, smartphone, or OMNY card.
LIRR and Metro-North fares
- LIRR and Metro-North fares vary based on what stations you're traveling between and when you're traveling.
- Buying tickets on your phone with TrainTime is the most convenient option.
