Queens Bus Network Redesign service changes

Changes are coming to Queens bus service in summer 2025. Here's what you need to know.

We're introducing a new Queens bus network. We're expanding the all-day frequent network, adding new overnight service, removing some stops, and adding new connections to major destinations and transfer points.

Changes to the Queens bus network are going into effect in two phases:

  • Phase 1: June 29, 2025
  • Phase 2: August 31, 2025

Routes without Sunday service change on either June 30 or September 2.

What's changing

We've taken a fresh look at the map to bring you faster, more reliable service with better connections. To do this, most bus routes have changed, which includes:

  • New bus routes and route numbers.
  • New Rush routes that get you to the subway faster.
  • Changes to bus stops, including stops being relocated or removed.
  • Routing changes to reduce turns.

We're updating bus stop signs to prepare for service changes that will be phased in by route on June 29 and August 31, 2025. Current service continues until then, but some signs will reflect future service. Use the Trip Planner, MTA app or BusTime to plan your trip.

Starting June 29, 2025, Queens bus riders who tap to pay using the same device or card will get a second free bus transfer on every trip. The first transfer must be within two hours of the first tap and the second transfer must be within three hours. The MTA will pilot this additional free transfer for approximately six months while evaluating the new Queens bus network.

Search for your bus route to see changes and when they're happening.

Why we're doing it

It's been several decades since we made major changes to Queens bus routes, during which time growth and travel patterns across the borough have changed. To create the new Queens bus network, we took feedback from five years of public engagement to develop and refine proposals that meet riders' needs, modernize service, and improve operations for our workforce. The redesign focuses on four customer priorities: reliable service, faster service, better connections, and simplified service.
