Fare evasion fine amounts

Fines for fare evasion are based on the number of violations committed during a four-year period:

  • First offense: Warning, no fine.
  • Second offense: $100 fine, $50 OMNY credit if fine is paid on time in full.
    • Participants in the Fair Fares NYC program who received a 50% fine reduction receive a $25 OMNY credit if their fine for a second offense is paid on time.
    • OMNY credit must be picked up at the TAB office within 60 days of fine payment.
  • Third offense and up: $150 fine or a criminal summons.

If you received a Notice of Fine indicating one or more violations for fare evasion in the past four years has been linked to you, then you have the right to dispute this match. Contact TAB to request information on the linked Notices of Violation.

If you haven’t received a Notice of Warning or Notice of Fine within 15 days after receiving the Notice of Violation, it is important that you contact TAB so that you receive warning or fine information prior to your hearing date. If the address on your Notice of Violation is not your current mailing address, it is important that you update your address.
