MTA Weekender: August 28-31, 2026

There are service changes on the subway this weekend. Here's how that will affect how you get around.

Happy last weekend of August, readers! Headed out to catch the last few moments of Fan Week at the USTA National Tennis Center, or to soak up the last few moments of summer at one of our city's pools, parks, or beaches? Like all summer weekends, the   Rockaway Park Shuttle is extended to Rockaway Blvd   to provide more service to Rockaways beaches—just one of the ways public transit can get you there. 

The nine-day continuous service suspension at Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy is in its final days, finishing up early this Monday morning, August 31. This weekend, there's no   service between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy. 

In addition to the   work, here's what else is happening this weekend (also viewable as a map):

  • There is no   service at Van Cortlandt Park-242 St.
  • 168 St-bound   trains are rerouted on the   in Brooklyn and on the   in Midtown Manhattan. 
  • There is no   service at Norwood-205 St. 
  •   trains aren't running between Manhattan and Queens, and are running in two sections.
  •   trains are running on the   via Roosevelt Island between Manhattan and Queens.

Major subway service changes

  trains, the Bronx

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, there is no   service at Van Cortlandt Park-242 St because of station work. 

  • For service to/from Van Cortlandt Park-242 St, take free shuttle buses, which are running between 238 St and Van Cortlandt Park-242 St.
  •   trains are running between 238 St and South Ferry, every 8 minutes during the day and evening. 

    trains, Brooklyn and Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • Inwood-bound   local trains are running express from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle. 
  • 168 St-bound   trains are running on the   from Jay St-MetroTech to 34 St-Herald Sq, then on the   to 59 St-Columbus Circle. 
  • Queens-bound   trains are running express from Canal St to 34 St-Penn Station. 

This is because of signal upgrades

  • For High St, take the  .
  • For service to/from Fulton St, take the   or use nearby World Trade Center  .
  • For service to/from Chambers St/World Trade Center and Canal St, take the    or a downtown   train.
  • For service to/from Spring St, use W 4 St-Wash Sq or take a downtown   .
  • For service to/from 14 St (8 Av), 34 St-Penn Station, and 42 St-Port Authority, take the   or uptown  
  • For service to/from 23 St, take a downtown    train. 
  • For service to/from 50 St, take the   or a downtown   train. 

  trains, the Bronx and Brooklyn

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, there is no   service at Norwood-205 St because of structural work.

  • For service to/from Norwood-205 St, take free shuttle buses between Bedford Park Blvd and Norwood-205 St.
  •   trains are running between Bedford Park Blvd and Coney Island-Stillwell Av all weekend.

  trains, Brooklyn

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,   trains aren't running between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy because of track work, part of a larger project to upgrade switches at Rockaway Pkwy

  • For service between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy, take free T426 shuttle buses, which are running between those stations along two routes:
    • Local, making all   stops.
    • Nonstop.
  • When exiting the subway at Broadway Junction or Junius St   (Livonia Av), get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  •   trains are running between 8 Av and Broadway Junction, approximately every 8 minutes during the day and evening and 12 minutes overnight.

  trains, Manhattan and Queens

  trains aren't running between Queensboro Plaza and Times Sq-42 St from 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday, and are running in two sections:

  • Between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza.
  • Between Times Sq-42 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, express between Times Sq and Canal St.

This is because of track replacement. 

  • For service between Queens and Manhattan, take the  .
  • At Queensboro Plaza, all   trains are stopping at the Manhattan-bound platform.
  • For service to/from Lexington Av/59 St and 5 Av/59 St, use nearby 59 St    .
  • For service to/from 57 St-7 Av, 49 St, 28 St, 23 St, 8 St-NYU, and Prince St, take    trains.
    •   trains are running local in both directions.

  trains, Manhattan and Queens

  trains are running on the   via Roosevelt Island between 36 St and 57 St-7 Av in both directions all day Saturday and Sunday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from Queens Plaza, take the  .
  • For service to/from Lexington Av/59 St and 5 Av/59 St, use nearby 59 St    .

Other subway service changes

Several trains are skipping stops in one direction from Friday night to early Monday morning, unless otherwise specified. For service to/from skipped stops, take a train going the opposite direction.

  • From early Saturday morning to Sunday night, Manhattan-bound   trains are running nonstop from Pelham Bay Park to Parkchester. 
  • Brooklyn-bound   and Queens-bound   local trains are running express from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle. 
  • Coney Island-bound   trains are running express from Smith-9th Sts to Kings Hwy. 
  • Church Av-bound   trains aren't stopping at 4 Av-9 St, 15 St-Prospect Park, and Fort Hamilton Pkwy.
