MTA Weekender: January 9-12, 2026

There are service changes on the subway and Long Island Rail Road this weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday! The first full week of 2026 is behind us, and perhaps you feel the need to step away from a screen, get outside, and touch grass this weekend. (The city does have 30,000 acres of parks, after all.) If so, we hope you use public transit to get to where you're going. 

Here's what's happening on the subway this weekend (also viewable as a map):

  •   trains aren't running between Chambers St and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College.
  •   trains aren't running at all.
  • Queens-bound   and Euclid Av-bound   trains are running on the   from W 4 St-Wash Sq to Jay St-MetroTech.
  • Coney Island-bound   trains are running on the   from 36 St to Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •   trains aren't running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av.
  •   trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St.
  •   trains aren't running between Lorimer St and Broadway Junction.

Major subway service changes

    trains, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan

From 11:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday: 

  •   trains are running between Eastchester-Dyre Av   and Chambers St and on the   to/from South Ferry.
  •   trains aren't running at all.
  •   trains are running between Wakefield-241 St   and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College, express in Manhattan and local in Brooklyn.

This is because of structural maintenance.

  • For service between Wakefield-241 St and E 180 St, take the  .
  • For service between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St, take the  .
  • For service between Harlem-148 St and 135 St, take free shuttle buses, which are running between these stations stopping at 145 St.
  • For service between 135 St and Chambers St, take the  .
  • For service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, take the       trains.
  • For service to/from Park Place, Fulton St, Wall St, Clark St, Borough Hall, and Hoyt St, use nearby    or   stations.
  • For service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and New Lots Av, take the  .
  • For service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College, take the  .
  •   42 St Shuttle is running all weekend, including overnight.

    trains, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  • Queens-bound   and Euclid Av-bound   trains are running on the   from W 4 St-Wash Sq to Jay St-MetroTech.
  • Uptown    and   local trains aren't stopping at Spring St and 23 St.
  • Uptown   and   local trains aren't stopping at 50 St.
  • Downtown   trains are stopping at 50 St and 23 St all weekend.

This is because of signal modernization and track replacement.

  • For 50 St, take a downtown     or uptown   train.
  • For 23 St, take downtown     trains.
  • For Spring St, take a downtown   train or use nearby W 4 St-Wash Sq.
  • For Canal St, take a downtown   or uptown     train.
  • For Chambers St, take an uptown    train or the   at World Trade Center.
  • For Fulton St, take an uptown    train or use nearby World Trade Center  .
  • For High St, take a Manhattan-bound    train or use nearby York St  .

  trains, Brooklyn

Coney Island-bound   trains are running on the   from 36 St to Coney Island-Stillwell Av from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.

  trains, Brooklyn

  trains aren't running between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Church Av in either direction from 9:30 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of signal modernization.

  • For service between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts, take free B93 shuttle buses, which are running between these stations and connecting to Jay St-MetroTech     .
  • For service between Bergen St and Church Av, take the  .

  trains, Brooklyn and Queens

  trains aren't running between Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Crescent St in either direction from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday because of track replacement.

  • For service between 121 St and Crescent St, free J90 shuttle buses are running between Jamaica Van-Wyck   and Crescent St, making all   stops between 121 St and Crescent St.
    • When exiting the subway at Jamaica-Van Wyck or Crescent St, get a GO Ticket from a station agent to re-enter.
  • For service to/from Jamaica Center-Parsons/Archer and Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport, take the  .
  • For service to JFK Airport , take the   to Howard Beach-JFK Airport or the  ​ to Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport.
  •   trains are running between Crescent St and Broad St.

  trains, Brooklyn

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday,   trains aren't running between Lorimer St and Broadway Junction and are running in two sections:

  • Between 8 Av and Lorimer St, every 8 minutes during the day and evening.
  • Between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy, every 10 minutes during the day and evening.

This is because of track replacement.

  • For service between Lorimer St and Broadway Junction, take free shuttle buses, which are running on two routes:
    • L90 between Lorimer St and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs, making all   stops.
    • Between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Broadway Junction, making all   stops.
  • For service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, consider taking      trains.

Other subway service changes

  trains, the Bronx

Manhattan-bound   trains are running nonstop from Burnside Av to 149 St-Grand Concourse from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Woodlawn-bound train.
  • During the day and evening,   trains are running every 8 minutes in Brooklyn and Manhattan and every 16 minutes in the Bronx. The last stop for alternate Bronx-bound trains is 125 St. Transfer to a Woodlawn-bound train to continue your trip.

  trains, Queens

Flushing-bound   trains are running express from 74 St-Broadway to Mets-Willets Point from 11:45 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Monday because of station work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take a Manhattan-bound train.
  • At Junction Blvd, all trains are boarding from the Manhattan-bound platform.
  •   trains are running every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

  trains, Queens

Manhattan-bound   trains are running nonstop from Astoria Blvd to Queensboro Plaza from 3:45 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Sunday because of station work.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an Astoria-bound train.

Long Island Rail Road

City Terminal Zone

From 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday, westbound trains aren't stopping at Forest Hills or Kew Gardens and westbound trains from Jamaica aren't stopping at Woodside. This is because of accessibility work.

  • Westbound trains are running nonstop from Jamaica to Manhattan. Port Washington Branch trains are still stopping at Woodside.
  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take the subway.
    • Show your LIRR ticket to enter the subway at no additional cost at Sutphin Blvd-Archer Av-JFK Airport  , Kew Gardens-Union Tpke   , Forest Hills-71 Av   , or Woodside-61 St  .

Hempstead, Port Jefferson, and Ronkonkoma branches

Eastbound trains aren't stopping at Hollis, Queens Village, and Elmont-UBS Arena from 12:30 a.m. Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday because of switch replacement.

  • For service to/from Hollis and Queens Village, take MTA buses, which are accepting LIRR tickets for travel between Jamaica, Hollis, and Queens Village. View a map of your route options and learn more about transferring at the Jamaica Bus Terminal.
  • For service to/from Elmont-UBS Arena, use nearby Bellerose station.
