MTA Weekender: Presidents Day Weekend 2026

There are service changes on the subway and LIRR this holiday weekend. Here’s how that will affect how you get around.

Happy Friday, happy Friday the 13th, and happy early Valentine's Day!

Since it's also a holiday weekend, we have some service changes on Monday, Presidents Day:

  • The subway and most buses will run on a Saturday schedule. Many weekend service changes will continue through Monday.
    • Staten Island buses will run on a reduced weekday schedule. Some Queens and Staten Island express buses will run on special holiday schedules.
  • The Staten Island Railway will run on a Sunday schedule.
  • The LIRR will run on a weekend schedule.
  • Metro-North will run on a Saturday schedule on the Harlem, Hudson, and New Haven lines and a weekend schedule on the Pascack Valley and Port Jervis lines.

Here's what else is happening on the subway this weekend (also viewable as a map):

  •   trains aren't running between 149 St-Grand Concourse and 125 St, and are running in two sections.
  •   trains aren't running between E 180 St and Bowling Green.
  •    trains aren't stopping at Smith-9 Sts.
  •   trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  •   trains aren't running between 36 St and Bay Ridge-95 St.

Major subway service changes

    trains, the Bronx and Manhattan

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday:

  •   trains aren't running between 149 St-Grand Concourse and 125 St, and are running in two sections:
    • Between Woodlawn and 149 St-Grand Concourse.
    • Between Crown Hts-Utica Av or New Lots Av and 125 St, local in Manhattan, and on the   to/from 3 Av-138 St.
  •   trains aren't running between E 180 St and Bowling Green.
    •   trains are running between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St.
  •   trains are running every 8 minutes during the day and evening.

This is because of switch replacement.

  • For service between E 180 St and 149 St-Grand Concourse, take the  .
  • For service between 149 St-Grand Concourse and 125 St, take free shuttle buses, which are running between 149 St-Grand Concourse and 3 Av-138 St  , stopping at 138 St-Grand Concourse.
  • For service between 125 St and Bowling Green, take the  .
  • Consider taking the   or   for service between the Bronx and Manhattan.
  • Metro-North is accommodating subway riders at no additional cost for travel between the Bronx and Manhattan at all stations between University Heights or Wakefield and Grand Central.

   trains, Brooklyn

From 9:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday,    trains aren't stopping at Smith-9 Sts in either direction because of escalator replacement.

  • For service to/from this station, take free T475 shuttle buses, which are running between Carroll St and 4 Av-9 St, stopping at Smith-9 Sts.

   trains, Brooklyn

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

  •   trains aren't running between 36 St and Bay Ridge-95 St.
    • During the day and evening,   trains are running between Forest Hills-71 Av and 36 St and on the   to/from 9 Av.
  • During late nights:
    • Manhattan-bound   local trains are running express from 59 St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
    •   trains aren't running.

This is because of track maintenance.

  • For service between 36 St and Bay Ridge-95 St, take free shuttle buses, which are running between these stations making all   stops. Or:
    • For service to/from 45 St and 53 St, take a Coney Island-bound  , which is making these local stops all weekend.
    • For service to/from 59 St, take the  .
  • During late nights:
    • For service to/from Whitehall St-South Ferry, Court St, and Jay St-MetroTech, take the   or use nearby    stops.
    • For service to/from DeKalb Av, take     trains.
    • For service between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and 36 St, take the   or a Coney Island-bound  .
    • For service to/from 45 St and 53 St, take a Coney Island-bound  .

  trains, Brooklyn

From 3:30 a.m. Saturday to 10 p.m. Monday,   trains aren't running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av because of track replacement.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take free B102 shuttle buses, which are running between Kings Hwy and Coney Island-Stillwell Av making all   stops.
  • For direct service between Manhattan or Downtown Brooklyn and Coney Island, take     trains.

  trains, Manhattan and Queens

From 7:45 a.m. to 12 noon Sunday, Forest Hills-bound   trains are running on the   from 57 St-7 Av to 36 St via Roosevelt Island because of signal maintenance.

  • For service to/from 5 Av/59 St and Lexington Av/59 St, take the  .
  • For service to/from Queens Plaza, take the   or use nearby Queensboro Plaza   .

Other subway service changes

  trains, Manhattan

From 11:45 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Tuesday, downtown   trains aren't stopping at 23 St and 14 St because of track maintenance.

  • For service to/from bypassed stations, take an uptown train.

Long Island Rail Road service changes

Hempstead Branch

From 12:15 a.m. Saturday to 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, Hempstead Branch trains aren't running because of signal work.

  • For service to/from Hollis, Queens Village, or Elmont-UBS Arena:
    • Eastbound, take a Huntington train.
    • Westbound, take MTA buses, which are accepting LIRR tickets between these stations and Jamaica.
    • Event attendees traveling to/from UBS Arena can also transfer to an eastbound train at Jamaica or Mineola at no additional charge. View the schedule.
  • For service to/from Floral Park, take a Huntington train.
  • For service to/from Stewart Manor, Nassau Boulevard, Garden City, and Hempstead, take shuttle buses, which are running between these stations and Mineola.
  • For service to/from Bellerose and Country Life Press, take NICE buses, which are accepting LIRR tickets on nearby routes.

Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches

On Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, Ronkonkoma Branch trains will run hourly and both Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma trains will run on adjusted schedules.
