Summer LIRR service changes in 2026

Updated May 20, 2026 11:00 a.m.

What we're doing

On most weekends in summer 2026, we will be installing new switches and signals near Elmont-UBS Arena. This is the next phase of a major upgrade of the infrastructure in the area to allow us to better serve the arena.

When complete, riders can expect more reliable service and increased speeds for eastbound Huntington and Ronkonkoma trains that stop at Elmont-UBS Arena.

Check Planned Service Changes or Service Status for the latest updates and service change schedule.

Service impacts

Work is scheduled to occur on the following weekends, from approximately 12:15 a.m. Saturday until 3:30 a.m. Monday.

  • May 30-June 1
  • June 6-8
  • June 13-15
  • June 27-29
  • July 18-20
  • July 25-27
  • August 1-3
  • August 8-10
  • August 15-17

There will be no work on Juneteenth or Independence Day weekends.

On these weekends, there will be many minor schedule adjustments across the LIRR, with more significant impacts to Hempstead Branch service. Overnight and early morning Huntington and Ronkonkoma branch riders will also see significant schedule changes to give our crews short, uninterrupted work windows on all tracks at once. Check the TrainTime app to see if your trip has been adjusted.

A note about the weekend of July 11-13: On this weekend, testing and commissioning of the new signal system will require a full suspension of train service through Elmont-UBS Arena on the Hempstead, Oyster Bay, Huntington/Port Jefferson, and Ronkonkoma branches. More details on service, schedules, and travel alternatives will be available in mid-June. If possible, consider using the Babylon or Port Washington branches on this weekend.
